Sophie Love

Sophie Love by Randy Dorman, Nashville

I’m Sophie Love, a 21-year-old singer-songwriter, and I’m currently deeper into my songwriting than I’ve ever been. I never really know when a song is going to come to me, and I don’t have one crazy, structured process for writing. Sometimes an idea comes all at once, sometimes a feeling turns into a lyric, and sometimes I just start creating and see where it takes me. I’ve been encouraged by more than a few people to write about what I’m actually going through, especially my experience with endometriosis, and that has opened up a whole new part of my artistry. I have a disease that has affected so much of my life, but I’m determined to use what keeps me alive—music, songwriting, creativity, and passion—to bring awareness to it and remind people that they are not alone. Several songs on my upcoming album are inspired by endometriosis and my experiences with it, as well as mental health. At the same time, I love writing vaguely enough that a song doesn’t belong to just one story. I want people to be able to hear something I wrote and make it their own.

My most recently released song, “I’m so tired,” is probably the most vulnerable and honest song I’ve released so far. It’s one of those songs that made me understand what singers mean when they say releasing music can feel like putting your diary out for everyone to read. Now everyone can hear how I feel, and that can be scary. But I also remind myself that just because something feels incredibly personal to me doesn’t mean someone else isn’t feeling the exact same thing. That is one of the biggest reasons I keep writing. I want to write about what keeps me going, what I’m tired of, the fantasies that are tied to real life, and the things that are difficult to say out loud. Most of what I write comes from somewhere real. Another song I’ve released, “Dangerous Eyes,” is a completely different side of me. I had the pleasure of writing it with Roy August and John Michael Ferrari after I was brought in to work on the song and later brought it to my coaches. They showed it to Mr. August, who loved it, and I remember being so thrilled. It was one of my first big, happy moments in the music business. “Dangerous Eyes” is one of my bluesiest songs, and I think it’s fun, playful, and a little dangerous.
